Gregory B. Scarlett is affiliated with Marron Lawyers as an independent contractor and Senior Counsel. Mr. Scarlett joined the Firm in October 2013 as a Senior Litigation Attorney specializing in transportation matters, general commercial litigation, class actions, insurance bad faith and coverage litigation, and healthcare litigation. Mr. Scarlett has over 30 years of experience representing both defendants and plaintiffs in complex civil litigation in federal and California state courts in a wide variety of practice areas, including general business litigation, consumer class actions, wage and hour class actions, whistle-blower/qui tam lawsuits, insurance bad faith and coverage litigation, personal injury/mass tort litigation, wrongful termination lawsuits, unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secret disputes, product liability cases, commercial lease disputes, homeowners' association and land use disputes, professional negligence lawsuits, director and officer liability cases, health insurance claims litigation and securities fraud litigation. He also has substantial experience handling insurance, health and financial industry insolvency and regulatory matters.

Mr. Scarlett comes to Marron Lawyers from the San Fernando Valley law firm of Wasserman, Comden, Casselman & Esensten LLP where he was a Senior Litigation Associate and Lead Class Action Attorney from 2007 through 2013 working primarily on complex plaintiffs’ class action litigation, including consumer protection, automobile defect, and wage and hour class actions. In 2013, Mr. Scarlett was selected as a Southern California Super Lawyer in the Class Action practice area.

Mr. Scarlett is not an employee of Marron Lawyers. As Of Counsel to the Firm, he is an independent attorney with a separate law practice that handles matters and clients having no affiliation with Marron Lawyers. Mr. Scarlett’s association with Marron Lawyers is limited to specific matters on an engagement-by-engagement basis. His work is not affiliated with Marron Lawyers unless the client has a current written engagement letter with Marron Lawyers.

Mr. Scarlett has been a Member of the California Bar since 1987. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Central District of California, Southern District of California, Northern District of California, and Southern District of Texas. Mr. Scarlett is (or has been) a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, San Fernando Valley Bar Association and American Bar Association. He is a member of Consumer Attorneys of California, Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and the California Minority Counsel Program.

Education

Mr. Scarlett received his J.D. degree in 1987 from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law where he was a contributing writer for the Black Law Journal. In 1986, he served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Stephen Reinhardt, Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Judicial Circuit. Before attending law school, Mr. Scarlett worked as a tax auditor for the Internal Revenue Service for over 5 years. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Government from Florida State University in 1977 where he was a writer for the Flambeau Student Newspaper and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
