April Szabo’s practice focuses primarily on employer counseling and defense of litigation filed against the firm’s business clients, including wage and hour class actions. She draws on her extensive human resources knowledge in providing the firm’s clients with guidance concerning workplace policies, investigations, agency filings, handbooks, hiring and termination, and all other personnel matters occurring in connection with daily business operations.

Ms. Szabo received her J.D. from Whittier College School of Law in 2008, graduating first in her class and serving as Editor in Chief of the Whittier Law Review. Her law review article, entitled "Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite - Employer Liability for Sexual Harassment in California," was submitted to the National Conference of Law Reviews as the most outstanding student article published by Whittier Law Review in 2006-2007.

Ms. Szabo attended law school part-time while working full-time as an Employee Relations Consultant for Washington Mutual Bank in Irvine, California. During this time, she assisted in-house counsel in responding to demand letters and conducted investigations into complaints of hostile work environment, sexual harassment, retaliation, discrimination and wrongful termination, as well as counseling managers regarding company policy and compliance with state and federal legal standards. Ms. Szabo also coordinated and participated in hundreds of reductions in workforce. She resigned after ten years with the organization in order to accept an externship with Presiding Justice David G. Sills of the California Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Division Three.

Ms. Szabo holds certifications in Human Resources Management and Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of California - Irvine - Extension Program. She also holds a B.A. in English from the University of San Diego (2000), and is a member of the Labor and Employment sections of the Orange and Los Angeles County Bar Associations.

In her spare time, Ms. Szabo supports the work of organizations such as Share Our Selves, Cure Autism Now, United Way, CHOC, Locks of Love, the Cinderella Project and Habitat for Humanity.
