California's Anti-SLAPP Statute
The firm’s attorneys have broad experience filing and defending motions under California’s statute regarding Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation, known as anti-SLAPP motions.
The statute, while complex, provides for a relatively inexpensive, efficient way to test the strength of a lawsuit which appears to infringe on First Amendment rights. Claims which do not survive the motion are dismissed, and attorneys’ fees are awarded.
Strategic and Timely Filing of Motions

In a libel action filed against a local business client, Marron Lawyers’ anti-SLAPP motion was granted, resulting in dismissal of the complaint on the basis of both anti-SLAPP coverage and the litigation privilege. The client was awarded $60,000 in attorneys’ fees and costs – the entire cost of the motion.
In a malicious prosecution and declaratory relief action filed against an individual and her business, Marron Lawyers obtained anti-SLAPP dismissal of the entire complaint, and another significant award of fees and costs.
In a malicious prosecution and breach of contract action filed against an international client, the firm has recently filed an anti-SLAPP motion which could lead to dismissal of the plaintiffs’ case and a large fee award.
